Frequently Asked Questions

Whats the difference between a filter tap and a boiling or chilled tap

A filter tap gives you clean, filtered drinking water from a dedicated tap or your existing kitchen tap.

A boiling or chilled tap does the same filtering, plus delivers instant boiling and/or chilled water on demand, so you can skip the kettle and the fridge jug entirely.

Is an instant boiling water tap safer than a kettle?

Scalds make up 56% of paediatric burns treated in Australasian burns units, most from spilt hot drinks. There's no NZ/Australian study comparing taps to kettles directly, but a 2020 Dutch Burns Foundation study found switching to a boiling tap clearly reduces burn risk — largely because the tap is fixed to the worktop and needs a deliberate action to activate, unlike a kettle that can be pulled or knocked over.

Do I need a plumber to install a filter or boiling water tap?

Our systems are designed to fit neatly under your existing kitchen sink and connect to your mains supply, so most installs are straightforward for a plumber to complete quickly.

We'd always recommend professional installation for boiling water systems given the electrical and plumbing connections involved.

How much space do I need under the sink?

Exact dimensions vary by model. Check the individual product page for the specific unit you're considering.

Will a boiling water tap increase my power bill?

We tested our 2-in-1 boiling tap against a standard kettle over 24 hours at typical New Zealand power rates, and the tap cost about 20 cents a day to run, roughly $6 a month.

That's a little more than a kettle carefully filled to exactly what you need, and less than a kettle filled to 1.5 litres. See the full breakdown.

How often do I need to replace the filter cartridge?

Most cartridges last around 12 months depending on your household's water usage and water quality, though we recommend checking your filter every 6 months.
